Captain Toad PlayNReview- On a Hunt for Treasure and 100% Completion!

“Captain Toad to the star and treasure rescue!”-CutieRoo

First of all, everything you thought about while playing the Captain Toad’s mini games in Mario 3D world and meeting him for the first time in Mario Galaxy; let’s just say his first impression did not disappoint. He was super adorable having his little Toad-Shroom-Ship that traveled far n‘ wide in Mario Galaxy, but being able to play as him in Mario 3D world, only gives a taste of what has become known as Captain Toad Treasure Tracker! However, don’t just think this is only Toad’s big debut, he brought a friend along that goes by the name of Toadette and every person needs some companionship *if you know what I mean*.

In spite of this being Toad’s first title, let’s just say the adorable level is off the charts with their cute-little-high pitch “yeahs” from Toad and Toadette or their gestures that make you want to go “AWWWW” to boot (Moments of awww include Toad going up to his fellow blue Toad from his Brigade and clapping in such a gleefully way). This hybrid of puzzle/platform adventure from Nintendo has done a spectacular job at making the game enjoyable to play, and not too repetitive so you will not lose interest. Each level has their own specific set of challenges like gathering coins, or locating the golden /1-up mushroom. Other challenges include but not limited too; kill all the enemies or none at all, or not get spotted by one. Last but not least, the challenge of completing the level with a certain amount of moves used on certain movable objects. Most of these challenges can be done by the second run-through of the level, but some are harder than others. However, the challenges are realistic and obtainable.

Particularly the best part of this game that excites me to no end is the simplicity behind the ideas that burst forth to create this charming game. Like the idea of the ability to not jump, it helps you think outside the box *I mean come on have you seen his backpack? That thing is HUGE & looks heavy for him! I wonder what’s in there?*. All of the puzzles are exciting and easy to grasp but some can be difficult because of the moving platforms, enemies, challenges, etc. As well as, the addition of interactive cut scenes (they are not your traditional cut scenes, these cut scenes are interactive optional), and they didn’t skip out on the adorableness *Because! That’s what matters most!*.

The story is simple as well because Toad goes on another adventure with obstacles that come in all shapes and sizes, just tying to achieve the shiny star *Cue in the Indiana Jones Music*. After-all, Toad is the new and cute version of Indiana Jones, just more mush and shrooms are involved. If the story and challenges were not hard enough, you are able to do SPEED RUNS! This is a perfect short speed run game for streamers. The only way to achieve the speed run is you must complete each episode *I shall stay strong and thou shall not spoil thy game!*. Last but not least, surprise content occurs after the completion of the game, so do not faulter, you get to play more.

One flaw I found a little difficult was the camera controls. I highly suggest learning how to become best friends with the camera control because it  makes the game play easier. Although, you can get the hang of it after a few puzzles. Either learn to adapt! Or learn to play the game in HARDMODE!

As previously mentioned, Captain Toad has nothing but adorableness labeled all over it. From the scenery, to the voices, to the characters and the way they act. For crying out loud, even the enemies are adorable and just makes you love this game even more! It is an easy game to grasp, it’s addicting, and can beat it in a short amount of time. The charm to this game shines bright and brings out the excitement factor to keep playing it more and more. Plus, everything about this game can’t help but make you go “AWWWWW” repeatedly.
