Playing this game was very new and different for me. Due to this game being themed and styled behind the Zelda genre, let’s just say my interests were piqued. This is not the usual Zelda games that we are all know and cherish with our hearts, or even to some people, Dynasty Warriors. The mixture of the two different genres is a baby that was meant to be born. I admit, I have not touched or played or watched or died to try Dynasty Warriors before, so the game style was new to me. But! It being a hack and slash kind of game falls into my love for action. INDEED, tis thee very refreshing to try this new genre, it was a little hard to maintain focus on each level due to how much that needed to be done all at once. That being said if you are a natural at being a multi-tasker and at prioritizing and at organizing then this will be a breeze for you! The tips I have for you is to jump between gobs of enemies, land your combos, do level events, and then mini to big bosses time! Sounds hard however this doesn’t scratch the surface for what’s to come.

Starting the game you will see different modes you can play. These modes are Legend, Adventure, and Challenge, so on and so forth (especially since downloadable content brings more!). Each mode brings something special to the game and adds more content to play. Legend mode is your basic play through the story line typically the same concept as any other Zelda games but there are spins to it (but I shall not spoil it for you). However, in Adventure Mode this is where the real core of the game is located. Achievements are high when playing adventure mode, ie. there are certain objectives that need to be achieved in order to unlock certain characters, weapons (goes in levels), items, and other objects to make the game play even more enjoyable. The three objectives that must be met in order to receive an “A” ranking are:

  1. the level must be completed within fifteen minutes (14:59), past 15 gets you a “B” ranking

  2. Avoid and/or minimalize incoming damage taken (I would create a goal of just avoid getting hit to make that one easier)

  3. Finally you must defeat/destroy/kill a whopping 1200 Enemies!!!! It may seem like a lot, but just wait to see how many enemies there are *toooooooooonnnnnns!*

Equally important to Adventure mode are the characters you unlock to play as and I want to spoil everyone by revealing them, but to give a taste, the characters from previous games are brought back and are playable. I know what you are thinking and you thinking it now. Wondering who came back that you can play as, is it villains perhaps? (none of the spoilment there!) Anyways, you can improve on each character as you play them, but be warned; certain levels only allow certain characters to play, while other levels giving you the freedom to choose. Choose wisely on those due to trying to improve on specific characters, because there are levels to each weapon that needs to be achieved. It’s worth it, because each level you get, the greater damage you do to multiple enemies. (It’s also an awesome non firework show of attacks to watch and be entertained by) Now, each character can level up their abilities through a tree system with offense or defense with the materials you get through, enemy drops or you can improve their individual level through “training” aka using rupees.

In addition to all the epicness of this game, the visual effects of this game are AAAMMMMMAAAAAZZZZZIIINNNNGGGG!!! The layout and design of each level are vast and change as you move from location to location. Be prepared to run everywhere in these levels but you will love the sights. As well as the costume designs, the newer design makes the looks department flawless or the older designs have gone through a time machine of Zeldas. The new designs for the characters armor are excellent and suites each character beautifully. Surprisingly, a new twist to the ever classic Zelda music has been amped up and tuned to a new hard rock n’ roll style. That being said I have loved every minute of listening pure joy of the revamped music and making me enjoy the hack and slash environment that much more.

Above all this game is worth playing because if you are a fan/lover to the Zelda series then trying something new will not bite! The game is very fast paced and if you cannot handle being pulled into several directions at once this game may not be best for you. Even though playing this game was very new and different for me and being Zelda based lured me into trying this new genre. I am more than thankful that I did. Trying a new genre was refreshing; however the competition for this game is tough. The storyline is quite different from most Zelda’s I mean, I am not surprised by the fact that there is another woman that wants links linkiness, but it was nice to have new characters to add onto the story that was different because of what the characters contributes. I will say the one con that stood out the most to me was that there was no feature to play online with friends, very disappointed since this game seems quite capable of do so. It’s a game worth the play. Just wait and see…. you might like it as well.
